Trudy was posted to Nova Scotia in 2017. For 5 years she has served as a Halifax School Resource Officer and a highly valued member of the RCMP Community Action Response Team.

Trudy has established a strong rapport with schools, students, and the families of youth at risk through trust, respect and understanding.

The broad scope of Trudy’s interventions includes defusing a dangerous incident where a mother threatened violence to prevent the removal of her children from the home, to the purchase of Nike sneakers – out of her own pocket – to recognize the success of a student who she helped. Both incidents resulted in a warm embrace – one by the distraught mother- the other by the grateful student.

A few examples of Trudy’s many engagements with the community and youth include:

  • Work and personal support to address the needs of the unhoused.
  • Program Director at “Camp  Courage”, introducing young women and gender diverse youth to potential careers as first responders.
  • Leader and presenter at “Den Youth Centre” for youth at risk in Lower Sackville.
  • Key organizer for 2023 Atlantic Women in Law Enforcement Conference.
  • 2023 RCMP Youth Depot Camp Leader – taking 4 youth to Depot for a week-long introduction to RCMP careers.
  • “School Action For Emergencies” (SAFE) Plan Coordinator for Halifax district.
  • Presenting the “human side of policing” in Restorative Justice work with youth.

Trudy has consistently exceeded her job requirements providing exceptional care to the youth that she encounters. Her firm, fair and compassionate work has earned respect from youth who state that “they not only trust her – they actually like her” for “humanizing” the person behind the badge.
